The organic foods market is growing and showing no signs of slowing as more and more of us want to feel good about what we are putting in our bodies. Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of problems associated with conventional farming and many of us want to avoid things like harmful chemicals from pesticides and herbicides. Grapes just so happen to be one of the most sprayed crops in the world and much of the pesticidal chemicals that soak into the fruit inevitably end up in your glass.

We know that drinking red wine in moderation is linked with a long list of happy health benefits ranging from cancer fighting properties to lowering blood pressure to slowing the ageing process. With organic wine you can drink in all of these benefits and rest easy that they won’t be cancelled out by added sulphites (one of the main culprits behind hangovers) and pesticides used in conventional winemaking.

On top of this, a recent study in California, published online Aug. 2 in the American Journal of Wine Economics which used professional ratings of more than 70,000 Californian wines found that the organic wines sampled really did taste better, with the eco-friendlier labels receiving an average rating bump of 5.6 points.
At the moment, many traditional retailers offer a disappointingly small selection but we hope this will change.
